AirSoft

Emily and I had an interesting introduction to the realm of sort-of-fake BB guns this past week. My cousin David spent all his birthday money on four Airsoft guns and over 10,000 neon green BBs, and immediately challenged me to a first-thing-in-the-morning target competition. For some reason that never happened; once the other boy cousins arrived they launched a midnight battle with each other as the targets. From then on we were all halfway scared to go outside (those things sting, even if they are just plastic). Em and I were the official ammo reloaders for awhile, until she found this little part that technically belonged in one of the guns, but could shoot on its own as well. We wound up sneaking out to the van with it, and randomly shooting out the window (not hitting anyone, of course). It was hilarious. They were so confused. David said it must've been a "freak", Eowin (pronounce it U-in) was convinced that we were split up and hiding somewhere along the sides of the house, and Devon, who knew all about it, almost burst out laughing when he had to help them look. It took them probably a full ten minutes to find us. Thankfully they weren't too mad...although I would've gotten shot for it if David's gun hadn't malfunctioned. Even still, I would do it again...it was so funny.

Another thing they found equally amusing was our absolute ignorance when it comes to any form of firearms (even fake ones). I think I had to ask them two or three times how to cock a gun, and it took Emily a really long time (not even gonna say how long) to figure out how to reload one. We knew nothing-- I mean nothing. David, however, was very happy to teach us and VERY proud that he finally talked us into joining the battle...I'm not sure I would do that again though.

It's moments like these when you can tell that I definitely don't have any brothers.

  • Hmm, that reminds me of the time I decided to play in a paintball game. No gear, no real protection, just layers of clothing and a welding mask. That's one experience that I will never forget!

Paintballs not only sting, they also cause welting and bruising and can knock the air clean out of you when you get hit in the wrong spot! Unfortunately all three of these things happened to me in the first round. :P
